As Christmas is over and a new decade approaches if you are looking for something to set your mind on, this could be the challenge for you.
The Northfield 9’ers fundraising group are looking for new cyclists to take part in their new event.
The Tranmere FC to the Highlander Pub cycle is a 115 mile ride to raise money for the British Heart Foundation in memory of Alan Dews who passed away of a cardiac rest over four years ago.
The Northfield 9’ers is a local fundraising group for the British Heart Foundation set up when Dorothy and Alan Dews unfortunately lost their son Alan Dews. They have raised over £37,000 doing various events like an annual Charity football match and the Fulham FC to the Highlander pub.
For the last 4 years, the group have been cycling back from Fulham FC but have decided that for their next ride they would like to set a new challenge. Tranmere was another one of Alan’s favourite away grounds. The Fulham ride has raised over £12,000 for the British Heart Foundation in Alan Dews’ name.

Organiser of the event, Darren Mervyn said: “It will be less than Fulham which was 143 miles but will be harder because of the hills.
“I haven’t yet sorted a route but hope to pass Chester FC, Wrexham FC, Shrewsbury FC and Kidderminster Harriers FC. I try to keep off main roads for safety reasons”.
Dorothy Dews, founder of The Northfield 9’ers, said: “The riders are looking forward to a different route and the event is already generating interest from potential new riders.
“There will be a welcome home party at the Highlander with music, BBQ, raffles etc. We are always grateful to receive raffle prizes”.

The event itself will take place on Saturday 11th July. A taxi will take all the riders from the Highlander Pub straight to Tranmere FC. The bikes will be transported via a support team.
At the finish all riders will receive a medal, framed photo and most importantly a well deserved drink.
To enter for new riders there is a fee of £80, new jersey is included, and for riders that have taken part before there is a £30 fee.
If you would like more information, please contact Darren Mervyn on 07767245158.
If you would like to donate any raffle prizes, please contact Dorothy and Alan Dews on 0121 608 4933 or 07757 653 453.
