Five local men – aged between 17 and 20 – were among eight arrested yesterday (Wednesday 12th February) in relation to a string of burglaries and attempted burglaries across south Birmingham, Worcestershire and Shropshire.
The arrests came as part of a West Mercia Police investigation after car keys and 26 cars were stolen over a period of around six weeks (17th December 2019 to 7th February 2020). Investigating officers are looking into 45 burglaries and attempted burglaries.
Officers from both West Mercia Police and West Midlands Police carried out early morning warrants across south Birmingham.
As a result, a 16 year old from Dudley and a 17 year old from Weoley Castle were both arrested on suspicion of dwelling burglary.
Six others were arrested on suspicion to commit dwelling burglary:
• 17 year old from Bartley Green
• 18 year old from Rednal
• 20 year old from Turves Green
• 18 year old from Rubery
• 18 year old from West Bromwich,
• 24 year old from Ladywood
All eight currently remain in police custody.
DC Kirsty Hill from West Mercia Police said: “Burglary can have a significant impact on victims and their families and I hope that this dedicated operation reassures our communities that we take these crimes seriously and will work with our neighbouring forces to ensure a coordinated and joint response to tackling them. Ten of the stolen vehicles have been recovered so far and our investigation very much still continues.”
