A local youth and community organisation has found its way into the record books with a fundraising bounce-athon!

The Stonehouse Gang has been supporting South West Birmingham’s young people for 80 years!

It provides clubs and opportunities for young people, as well as catering to older residents and new mums, at its base on the border of Selly Oak and Weoley Castle..

The organisation also owns a residential adventure centre in Wales.

Fully self-funded, the Stonehouse Gang regular hold fundraising events and to celebrate the 80 year anniversary, it was decided that they would try and get into the Guinness Book of World Records!

It was decided to go for Longest Marathon on a Bouncy Castle (Team) – obviously before anyone realised there would be a heatwave!

Eight club members and volunteers did the jumping, in two hour shifts (ouch!), supported by a team of volunteers. There were also volunteers as independent witnesses.

The team of rather toasty bouncers smashed the previous record of 48 hours, 48 minutes, 48 seconds with a marathon 50 hour bounce, raising a massive £1900!

Supporters celebrate the completion of the 50 hour Bounceathon and the Stonehouse Gang’s entry into the Guinness Book of World Records! On behalf of the Gang, Alex said: “With no grants or government funding, we totally rely on fundraising and volunteers, so this money will be invaluable in keeping the club nights going, plus providing opportunities for young people from Birmingham to have weekends away in Wales at our outdoor centre.”

Well done all on your spectacular achievement!

The Stonehouse Gang are celebrating their 80th Anniversary with a social event at the Tally Ho Banqueting Suite in Edgbaston in September. If you’re a former member and are interested in attending, check their Facebook page or call the office on 0121 427 2961
